I have been counting down the days until summer, and most importantly, summer reading. For me, a quiet summer morning or a midday tanning session are best accompanied by reading! It’s such a productive way to spend your time, especially during the relaxing summer season. I love making DIY bookmarks, but it’s so fun to make specifically summery ones to get you into the spirit and to stay motivated with your reading journey. Today, I’m sharing a roundup of ideas and methods to making cute summer reading bookmarks, and hopefully it inspires you to get creative with your friends.
Summer reading bookmarks are simply summer inspired bookmarks for you to use throughout your summer reading journey. They can be decorated with seashells, suns, and other summery or ocean-inspired stickers and charms. It’s even more fun to roundup some friends and get creative together.

Avoid covering the hole and placing the sticker off of the edge of the bookmark. Press it down firmly to make sure it’s fully adhered.
How to create a bead chain
For this part, start with 12-20 inches of elastic thread. I used .8mm elastic but other materials or sizes work too. When cutting the string, leave a lot of excess, otherwise it can be really hard to tie the knots at the end. Next, make a slipknot (this TikTok tutorial by user Knits and Bits was super helpful if you don’t know how to tie a slip knot) and adjust it to pinky width.
Then, tie 2 knots using both ends of the thread, gathering them around the slipknot. Next, you’re going to add the beads through both strings (depending on size, I used 12-15). Keep in mind, you want it to be longer than the tassel by a couple inches.
Once the beaded chains are complete, knot the end twice using both strings, making sure the knot is bigger than the bead directly next to it so they won’t fall off. I used elastic from my bead box but you can buy them separately too or use colored thread. Attach the keychain to the tassel using a ring and pliers.
Your end product can look many ways and it’s so fun to explore all of the possible options! Let yourself be creative and see what you can come up with.
You can also make your own bookmark designs with individual stickers! The arched bookmarks come with the cutest tassels. This bookmark reminds me of a morning coffee at the beach or lake. I got these stickers from Martina Calvi’s sticker sheet!
The Sticker Method:
I made this one with a seashell sticker sheet from Amazon and then when I tied the little bow, I attached this gold starfish! The colors and vibes are so summery and pretty, and I love how the seashell charm sticks out of the book.
This bookmark is so cute and girly with everything pink and red! I also used these from Martina’s sticker sheet.
For this bookmark, I used a disco cherry sticker sheet! After tying the bow, I laced the letters of my friend’s name through the string. Bookmarks always make for a cute gift – especially if you place it inside of a book or journal that you’re also gifting.
I used seashell stickers from Etsy and added the prettiest glass beads, along with a green butterfly charm. This one reminds me of the Summer I Turned Pretty.
This sticker sheet is so cute with cherries and flowers! And then I made this fun bead strand with a heart at the end.
I made this bookmark using stickers from a sticker sheet that Dae beauty sent me with a PR package! The colors are so fun and juicy for summer.
