The holidays and winter season calls for parties and cozy gatherings! And what’s a gathering without some yummy food? A holiday-themed appetizer makes an event even more fun and memorable, so I always try to think of something creative and fun. I had so much fun making my pumpkin cheese ball for Halloween and it was such a hit with all of my friends because it was so delicious! I couldn’t resist making a Christmas version and it was so yummy again. I’ve seen a few takes on the snowman cheese ball but I think this version was really festive and delightful!
A snowman cheeseball is one of my favorite holiday appetizers and can be made with a wide variety of ingredients! But cream cheese is the main ingredient in order to get that ball shape. You can add a lot of different things to the mixture such as garlic powder, sharp cheddar, ranch seasoning, chives, etc. I combined a few cheeseball recipes until I came up with the perfect flavor and snowman look! Therefore, using cream cheese and white cheddar is better for a snowman versus orange cheddar cheese. I also decided that peppercorns and a tiny carrot piece would be perfect for the eyes mouth and buttons.
If you prepare this recipe for a party, keep the plastic wrapped cheese balls in the fridge until you’re ready to share. Assemble and enjoy!
Shred the white cheddar cheese and set aside.
Combine first 4 ingredients and mix with a fork until blended.
Divide cheese mixture and form into 2 different-size balls (1 slightly smaller than the other).
Coat with more cheese and wrap with plastic wrap and refrigerate for an hour.
Once you’re ready to serve it, unwrap the cheeseballs and place the smaller ball on top of the larger ball on your serving platter. I used toothpicks for extra support. I stabbed two of them onto the top of the larger ball and placed the smaller ball over it.
Decorate with peppercorns for eyes, buttons and a mouth (optional).
Press a tip of a baby carrot deep enough that it sticks out as a nose to finish creating your snowman.
You can serve with crackers, pretzels, pretzel sticks, tiny toasted bread rounds, or even vegetables like carrot sticks.
