Hi!! So first off, how ironic is it that I’m writing my October monthly goals post a week after I said I would write it? Whoops! To be fair, I decided on my monthly goals at the beginning of the month, but I’ve been struggling to find time to complete this post. My idea to start creating attainable monthly goals was inspired by a book I recently began, Girl Wash Your Face. I’m only on the third chapter, but the book talked about how we set these huge fitness goals instead of starting with something small like drinking the recommended amount of water a day. I am such an all or nothing person so this thought really resonated with me. If I can’t even commit to drinking the right amount of water a day, why should I start with a goal to commit to a new gym routine and a new diet?
I was also reminded of this when talking to a mentor. I described how I constantly feel like I’m not able to accomplish anything. I’ve basically been setting myself up to feel like I failed because I make my to do list and monthly goals more than I could ever realistically accomplish.
So this month, I’m setting a few, realistic monthly goals.
My October Monthly Goals
1. Drink the recommended amount of water per day
Okay, y’all might have guessed this one, but I want to start my monthly goals with one of the ones I was inspired by, drinking more water. I’ve read a few things about how much I should drink, but I’ve settled on half an ounce to an ounce of water for every pound I weigh. I bought a new cup to try to help me track it. I’ve tried apps before, but I think having the cup in front of me will work better than logging something in my phone. I’m also using this insert for my planner where I can write down how much I drank each day that week.
2. Read at least two books a month
I love reading. It’s one of my favorite things to do. When I was little, I would pick reading over any other activity. When my friends would come over to play, I would make them “play” book club with me. In elementary school, I got them all books for Christmas thinking everyone shared my passion for reading. I quickly learned that wasn’t the case. As I’ve gotten older, I haven’t made time for reading, and it’s something I want to start doing again. I’m starting small with a goal of two books a month. One will be fiction and one nonfiction. This month I’m reading A Simple Favor. Those Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick movie previews were too good to resist! So far the book is really good! I’m also reading Girl Wash Your Face like I mentioned above. I’m not very far, but I’m also loving this one!
I can’t end my post without sharing a few comments about my outfit! My dress is from Chicwish, one of my fav sites, and the length is totally petite friendly (yay!). The pom pom details are adorable. I would recommend sizing down in this dress.
Do you do monthly goals? If so, I’d love to hear some of yours in the comments below to inspire me for future months.
